FAQ
Questions people ask before they start.
Straight answers about how MatterVine works, what it costs, and what happens with your information.
How it works
- What is MatterVine?
- MatterVine is a free AI-powered tool that helps people who have been injured understand what their personal-injury case might be worth. After a short conversation, we match you with a vetted attorney in your state who can take your case further.
- How does the case value estimate work?
- Our AI asks you a series of questions about your incident, injuries, and treatment. It then compares your answers against publicly available verdict and settlement data for similar cases in your jurisdiction to produce an honest range — not a single number. The estimate is informational, not legal advice.
- How long does the intake take?
- Most people finish in about five minutes. It is a conversation, not a form — you describe what happened in your own words and the AI asks follow-up questions as needed.
- Do I need to create an account?
- No. There is no signup, no password, and no account required. You start a conversation, and we assign you a private session link so you can return to your results at any time.
Cost and fees
- Does using MatterVine cost anything?
- No. The case estimate, the AI conversation, and the attorney match are completely free for you. MatterVine is paid by the attorneys who receive leads through our marketplace.
- Will the attorney I am matched with charge me upfront?
- Personal-injury attorneys almost always work on contingency, meaning they only get paid if you win or settle your case. MatterVine only works with attorneys who accept cases on this basis. You should never have to pay anything out of pocket to get started.
Attorney matching
- How do you choose which attorney I am matched with?
- We match based on your state, the type of injury, and attorney availability. Every attorney in our network is licensed and in good standing with their state bar. We do not run an auction — your case goes to one attorney who has opted in to your case type.
- What happens after I am matched?
- The attorney receives a summary of your case — including the facts you shared during intake — and your contact information. They will typically reach out by phone or email within one business day. You are under no obligation to hire them.
- Can I decline the attorney I am matched with?
- Absolutely. Being matched does not create a legal obligation. If the attorney is not the right fit, you are free to seek representation elsewhere.
- What if no attorney is available for my case?
- If we do not have an attorney available in your state or for your case type, we will let you know and suggest next steps, such as contacting your state bar association’s lawyer referral service.
Privacy and your information
- Who sees the information I share?
- Only MatterVine and the single attorney matched to your case. We do not sell your information to multiple law firms or lead buyers. Your case details are never made public.
- Is the AI conversation private?
- Yes. Your conversation is stored securely and is only shared with the matched attorney in a sanitized format that removes sensitive details like full names, addresses, and Social Security numbers before the attorney sees it.
- Can I delete my information?
- Yes. Email [email protected] and we will delete your session data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Your results
- What do the verdict ranges mean?
- Verdict ranges reflect what juries and insurance companies have paid in cases that share some characteristics with yours — same injury type, similar jurisdiction, comparable treatment. They are not predictions. Your case could resolve above, below, or within the range depending on dozens of factors specific to you.
- Why is the range so wide?
- Because honest ranges are wide. Two car-accident cases with similar injuries can settle for very different amounts depending on liability, insurance limits, the county, the quality of documentation, and many other variables. A narrow number would be more reassuring but less truthful.
- Can I come back and see my results later?
- Yes. Your results page stays available at the same link. You can also find it in the email we send you after intake is complete.
